Hey guys! And happy Tasty Tuesday!
Today, we are doing things a little differently this Tasty Tuesday. As we know, it is the holiday season, and Thanksgiving is around the corner. So, I decided to give you guys a recipe for my favorite side dish for Thanksgiving or this upcoming holiday season.
My favorite side dish for Thanksgiving would have to be my great-grandmothers' candied yams. I know Nourish and Flourish are dedicated to giving our readers healthy and budget-friendly recipes. But of course, it is the holiday season, so it is okay to splurge, especially with this delicious recipe!
My favorite thing about candied yams is the sweetness of brown sugar melting in your mouth and the delicious spices that go into this recipe of nutmeg, cinnamon, plus orange zest.
My great-grandmothers' recipe is simple to make and wonderfully delicious, plus it is inexpensive for this holiday season. The ingredients and instructions are down below.

Ingredients:
· 5 to 6 medium sweet potatoes
· 1/4 cup of butter (salted or unsalted)
· 1/3 cup of brown sugar (light or dark)
· 1/2 cup of maple syrup
· 1 teaspoon ground or grated fresh ginger (optional)
· 1 teaspoon fresh orange zest
· 2 teaspoons vanilla
· 1/3 teaspoon cinnamon
· 1/3 teaspoon nutmeg
· 1/3 teaspoon cumin
· 1/4 teaspoon of salt
Instructions:
1. Begin by preheating your oven to 375 F and set your 9 X 13 dish aside.
2. Wash and clean the sweet potatoes. Then peel off the skin of the sweet potatoes and cut the sweet potatoes about ¼ inch rounds. And arrange the cut slices of sweet potatoes into your 9 X 13 dish.
3. in a saucepan on medium heat, begin adding butter, sugar, ginger, and orange zest and stir until sugar completely dissolves. Then stir in maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, cumin, and salt.
4. Once the syrup has come together and the ingredients are well blended, pour the syrup evenly over the sweet potatoes, then cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. After 20 minutes of baking, the yams begin to baste with syrup and leave the foil off to caramelize the sweet potatoes.
5. After the candied yams are finished baking, set the candied yams aside to cool down for 5 to 10 minutes. You can now serve this delicious side dish to your friends and family this holiday season.
